The Opportunity:

As a Gardener, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing the school’s gardens and outdoor spaces, ensuring they are presented to a consistently high standard throughout the year. This role offers the chance to contribute to a dynamic and historic educational setting, working with a dedicated team to create welcoming and inspiring outdoor environments for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance the school’s gardens, lawns, borders, and landscape areas to a consistently high standard.
  • Carry out seasonal planting and ensure the upkeep of all outdoor spaces throughout the year.
  • Support the preparation of outdoor areas for school events and activities.
  • Collaborate with the grounds team to ensure the school environment is welcoming and well-maintained.
  • Contribute to the development of the wider grounds across multiple sites within the school group.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards in all gardening activities.
  • Assist with the maintenance of garden tools, equipment, and facilities.
  • Stay up to date with best practices in horticulture and sustainable gardening.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in garden maintenance and horticultural work.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality results.
  • Physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Experience with the use of garden tools and equipment.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices.
  • Experience with seasonal planting and landscape design.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends when required.
