The Opportunity:
As the Head of Biology, you will lead and manage the biology department while maintaining the highest standards in teaching and learning. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of science education and inspire students to excel academically and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the biology department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement departmental policies, objectives, and schemes of work.
- Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, providing targeted support and intervention where necessary.
- Oversee syllabuses for public examinations and ensure alignment with academic standards.
- Organise and manage internal and external assessments, including GCSE and IB examinations.
- Support the development of the most able students through enrichment and extension opportunities.
- Promote the study and enjoyment of biology across the school.
- Liaise with EAL and Learning Support teams to ensure inclusive teaching practices.
- Mentor and develop departmental staff through the Professional Development Programme.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in leading a department.
- Strong subject knowledge in biology at all levels of education.
- Experience in managing and developing teaching staff.
- Ability to create and implement effective schemes of work.
- Experience in monitoring and evaluating student progress and assessment.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Preferred
- Experience in independent or boarding schools.
- Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum.
- Experience in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
- Leadership experience in curriculum development and assessment.
- Experience in mentoring and supporting new teachers.
