The Opportunity:

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the biology department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
• Develop and implement departmental policies, objectives, and schemes of work.
• Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, providing targeted support and intervention where necessary.
• Oversee syllabuses for public examinations and ensure alignment with academic standards.
• Organise and manage internal and external assessments, including GCSE and IB examinations.
• Support the development of the most able students through enrichment and extension opportunities.
• Promote the study and enjoyment of biology across the school.
• Liaise with EAL and Learning Support teams to ensure inclusive teaching practices.
• Mentor and develop departmental staff through the Professional Development Programme.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

• Qualified teacher with experience in leading a department.
• Strong subject knowledge in biology at all levels of education.
• Experience in managing and developing teaching staff.
• Ability to create and implement effective schemes of work.
• Experience in monitoring and evaluating student progress and assessment.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

• Experience in independent or boarding schools.
• Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum.
• Experience in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
• Leadership experience in curriculum development and assessment.
• Experience in mentoring and supporting new teachers.
