The Opportunity:

As the Head of Department for Geography and Travel & Tourism, you will lead and inspire a team to deliver a high-quality curriculum that supports student growth and achievement. This role is central to shaping the future of Geography and Travel & Tourism education at the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and deliver a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum for students in Geography and Travel & Tourism.
  • Monitor and support student progress as a teacher, form tutor, and department leader.
  • Lead teaching and learning initiatives that enhance the quality of classroom instruction.
  • Support and mentor trainee teachers within the department.
  • Implement and lead department improvement plans and self-review processes.
  • Promote high standards of teaching and learning across the subject areas.
  • Work collaboratively with other leaders and schools within the Multi Academy Trust.
  • Ensure effective use of data to raise attainment and support targeted student groups.
  • Represent the school at relevant events and meetings within the Multi Academy Trust.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a school setting, preferably within Geography and Travel & Tourism.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Geography and Travel & Tourism.
  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery.
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in staff development and training.
  • Familiarity with United Learning’s educational framework and values.
  • Experience with data analysis and student progress tracking.
  • Experience in leading improvement planning and self-review processes.
  • Experience in working within a Multi Academy Trust environment.
