The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Head of English to lead and inspire our English department. This role offers the chance to shape curriculum development, mentor teachers, and drive academic excellence in a supportive and forward-thinking school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a robust curriculum aligned with the National Curriculum for England.
  • Mentor and support teachers to enhance their professional practice and student outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align departmental goals with school-wide objectives.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive school culture that reflects the values of Grow, Flourish, and Mindfulness.
  • Organize and lead extracurricular activities that enrich student experiences in English and beyond.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring consistent academic achievement across all year groups.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Bachelor of Education or a Bachelor’s degree with PGCE / PGDE (English)
  • Proven experience teaching English to GCSE/ A level
  • Exemplary teaching practice and a passion for continuous improvement
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A proven track record of delivering outstanding learning and teaching

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership or senior teaching role
  • Familiarity with international curricula and assessment systems
  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team of educators
