The Opportunity:

As a Lead SEND Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting students with autism and other special educational needs. This position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic, inclusive environment while contributing to the development of a highly skilled team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Centre and SEND teaching team in delivering high-quality, inclusive education aligned with students’ EHCP needs.
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate structured learning activities for individual pupils, small groups, and whole classes.
  • Promote the academic, social, and emotional development of students with autism through targeted interventions and in-class support.
  • Collaborate with teachers, external agencies, and families to ensure the best outcomes for students.
  • Contribute to assessment, monitoring, and reporting of student progress using clear systems and documentation.
  • Create a safe, purposeful, and nurturing learning environment within the Polden Centre.
  • Support the centre staff team with professional development to enhance their ability to support students.
  • Deputise for the Head of Centre when required and take on wider school responsibilities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching students with SEND in either specialist or mainstream settings
  • Ability to adapt lessons and manage behaviour effectively to meet diverse learning needs
  • Commitment to professional development and reflective practice
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, parents, and external agencies

Preferred

  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language
  • Familiarity with the ASC Polden Centre and its approach to supporting students with autism
  • Experience in creating and implementing individualised learning plans
