The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dedicated Residential Housemistress to lead and support a boarding house for girls aged 10 to 18. This role is central to creating a welcoming, safe, and nurturing environment, ensuring students feel at home while promoting their academic and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of a boarding house for approximately 70 girls.
  • Provide a supportive and caring environment that promotes the well-being and personal development of students.
  • Work closely with the school community, including other boarding staff, teachers, and pupils.
  • Be on duty two shifts a week and every second weekend, following an A-B rota system.
  • Welcome students at the start of each term and support them throughout their time at the school.
  • Ensure the smooth running of house activities and events, contributing to the wider life of the school.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for students, in line with safeguarding policies.
  • Collaborate with the school leadership to uphold the school’s values and vision.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a residential or boarding environment, ideally with young people.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection, with willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a bicultural or international setting.
  • Familiarity with Japanese culture and education system.
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Fluency in Japanese or English language teaching experience.
