Higher Level Teaching Assistant role in a specialist SEN school. Support students with complex needs.

A school dedicated to supporting young people aged 5–19 with complex learning disabilities, autism, and challenging behaviours. It provides a supportive, inclusive environment with a strong focus on community and wellbeing.

The Opportunity:

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers to deliver engaging lessons and support students with complex needs. You will help shape learning experiences, monitor progress, and mentor other Teaching Assistants. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives in a supportive and inclusive setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the class teacher in delivering high-quality learning experiences
  • Assist with lesson planning, preparation, and delivery
  • Monitor and track student progress to support individual development
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to other Teaching Assistants
  • Support students with personal care needs as required
  • Implement positive behaviour strategies and physical intervention techniques
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet student needs
  • Attend training and professional development sessions

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with students with complex needs, including autism and learning disabilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently within a team
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
  • Willingness to complete required training, including Team Teach and physical intervention

Preferred

  • Qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
  • Experience in a specialist SEN setting
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour support strategies
  • Experience with teaching English as a second language
  • Experience working with students with challenging behaviours
