The Opportunity:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students with severe learning disabilities and complex needs achieve independence and personal growth. You will support small groups of students in a nurturing environment, using a multi-sensory approach to enhance learning and communication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students in small classes with core subjects and life skills development.
- Assist with communication using Makaton, symbols, and other aids.
- Provide emotional and behavioural support to students in challenging situations.
- Work collaboratively with a dedicated team and participate in ongoing training.
- Support students with personal care needs, with full training provided.
- Maintain accurate records and complete essential forms related to student progress.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and professionals.
- Patience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- A commitment to providing personal care support when needed.
- A sufficient level of mental, physical, and emotional resilience.
Preferred
- Previous experience in education or care settings.
- Experience with Teaching Assistants' apprenticeships or similar qualifications.
- Knowledge of Makaton or other communication support methods.
- Experience with students on the autism spectrum or with complex needs.
