The Opportunity:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students with severe learning disabilities and complex needs achieve independence and personal growth. You will support small groups of students in a nurturing environment, using a multi-sensory approach to enhance learning and communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in small classes with core subjects and life skills development.
  • Assist with communication using Makaton, symbols, and other aids.
  • Provide emotional and behavioural support to students in challenging situations.
  • Work collaboratively with a dedicated team and participate in ongoing training.
  • Support students with personal care needs, with full training provided.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete essential forms related to student progress.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and professionals.
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A commitment to providing personal care support when needed.
  • A sufficient level of mental, physical, and emotional resilience.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in education or care settings.
  • Experience with Teaching Assistants' apprenticeships or similar qualifications.
  • Knowledge of Makaton or other communication support methods.
  • Experience with students on the autism spectrum or with complex needs.
