The Opportunity:

As a School Business Manager, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for managing all non-teaching operations across the school. This role is essential in supporting the Headteacher and ensuring the smooth delivery of the school’s vision and mission, with a focus on effective leadership and strategic management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all non-teaching operations, including finance, HR, administration, premises, health & safety, ICT, procurement, and compliance.
  • Lead HR processes, including recruitment, induction, appraisal, absence, payroll, and staff wellbeing.
  • Develop and maintain administrative systems, ensuring strong communication and GDPR compliance.
  • Provide expert financial and resource advice to the Headteacher and Governing Body.
  • Support budget setting, financial monitoring, audit compliance, and reconciliation processes.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for the Governing Body, Ofsted, Local Authority, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead on risk management and business continuity planning to ensure operational resilience.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Professional qualification in business management or equivalent experience.
  • Strong leadership and staff management skills.
  • Knowledge of HR processes, employment law, and staff development.
  • Experience in premises, health & safety, and risk management.
  • Understanding of financial processes, including budgeting, payroll, and procurement.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and ICT skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines.

Preferred

  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CIPD, NEBOSH).
  • Knowledge of education sector regulations and safeguarding requirements.
  • Financial management experience.
