The Opportunity:

We are seeking a School Counsellor to provide essential emotional and pastoral support to students and staff. This role is central to the school’s commitment to student wellbeing and involves working one-on-one and in small groups to promote mental health and resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional counselling support to students and staff on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Promote the counselling service across the school and support pupil induction.
  • Attend parent events and collaborate with staff to ensure a cohesive pastoral approach.
  • Liaise with external agencies and refer students when necessary for additional support.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of PSHEE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education) initiatives.
  • Uphold the school’s values and commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
  • Work independently and with a high level of professionalism and ethical awareness.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Recognised counselling qualification with BACP or UKCP registration or accreditation.
  • Experience working with young people aged 11–18, ideally within a school setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across the school community.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Ability to work independently and professionally.

Preferred

  • Experience in pastoral care or school-based counselling.
  • Familiarity with PSHEE delivery and curriculum development.
  • Experience with child protection screening and safer recruitment processes.
