The Opportunity:
We are seeking a School Counsellor to provide essential emotional and pastoral support to students and staff. This role is central to the school’s commitment to student wellbeing and involves working one-on-one and in small groups to promote mental health and resilience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide professional counselling support to students and staff on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
- Promote the counselling service across the school and support pupil induction.
- Attend parent events and collaborate with staff to ensure a cohesive pastoral approach.
- Liaise with external agencies and refer students when necessary for additional support.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of PSHEE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education) initiatives.
- Uphold the school’s values and commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
- Work independently and with a high level of professionalism and ethical awareness.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Recognised counselling qualification with BACP or UKCP registration or accreditation.
- Experience working with young people aged 11–18, ideally within a school setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across the school community.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Ability to work independently and professionally.
Preferred
- Experience in pastoral care or school-based counselling.
- Familiarity with PSHEE delivery and curriculum development.
- Experience with child protection screening and safer recruitment processes.
