The Opportunity:
This Senior Deputy Headteacher role offers a unique pathway to headship, with the opportunity to lead a school of 1,300 students and deputise for the Headteacher. This is a substantive role that prepares you for senior leadership with direct mentorship and trust-wide exposure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day operations of a secondary school, including behaviour, attendance, and pastoral systems.
- Deputise formally for the Headteacher and represent the school at all levels, including governors.
- Oversee staff leadership and contribute to strategic decision-making.
- Drive school improvement initiatives and support the school’s culture of belonging and achievement.
- Manage safeguarding and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Present regularly to stakeholders and contribute to the school’s public profile.
- Support the Headteacher in trust-wide executive roles and school improvement strategies.
- Develop and implement policies that align with the school’s vision and values.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience as a Deputy Headteacher with a track record of impact.
- Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.
- Experience in behaviour management, attendance improvement, or pastoral leadership.
- Commitment to student and staff development.
- Ability to deputise for the Headteacher and represent the school effectively.
Preferred
- NPQH qualification or currently undertaking it.
- Experience in school improvement and trust-wide collaboration.
- Demonstrated success in curriculum redesign or cultural change initiatives.
- Experience in working within a multi-academy trust or similar structure.
