The Opportunity:

A school is seeking a passionate and committed Teacher of Biology to join a successful and high-achieving department. The role offers the opportunity to teach across all levels and contribute to a dynamic and well-resourced Biology Department that consistently delivers outstanding results in National Examinations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality Biology lessons across S1 to S6, including National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher qualifications.
  • Support the development of pupils’ knowledge, problem-solving skills, and understanding of Biology in a variety of contexts.
  • Collaborate with the Biology Department and full-time Technician to ensure the use of modern laboratory facilities and resources.
  • Participate in the planning, delivery, and assessment of curricular and extra-curricular activities.
  • Contribute to the school’s commitment to excellence through continuous professional development and innovative teaching practices.
  • Provide pastoral support and guidance to students where appropriate.
  • Engage fully in the extra-curricular life of the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with registration, or eligibility for registration, with the GTC Scotland.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Biology at all levels up to Advanced Higher.
  • Experience in teaching Biology in a secondary school setting.
  • Commitment to delivering high standards of academic achievement and pupil progress.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching both Higher and Advanced Higher Biology.
  • Familiarity with Scottish Curriculum for Excellence and National Qualifications.
  • Experience in leading or contributing to departmental initiatives or curriculum development.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience in extra-curricular activities or leadership roles.
