The Opportunity:

A school is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Modern Studies Teacher to join a dynamic and successful department. This role offers the opportunity to inspire students, develop critical thinking, and contribute to a curriculum that encourages active learning and global citizenship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality lessons in Modern Studies, and support teaching in History and/or Politics where appropriate.
  • Foster a learning environment that encourages critical thinking, independent inquiry, and evidence-based reasoning.
  • Design and implement engaging, thought-provoking, and challenging lesson plans that align with the school’s academic standards.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback and support to help students achieve their full potential.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the History, Modern Studies, and Politics department to enhance teaching and learning across the curriculum.
  • Participate in the development of new courses and curriculum initiatives, including options such as Crime and the Law and Comparative Politics.
  • Support students in developing confidence and skills in handling evidence, questioning, and independent thinking.
  • Engage in professional development and contribute to the school’s commitment to excellence in education.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in Modern Studies, History, or Politics.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach Modern Studies at all levels.
  • Commitment to active learning and fostering critical literacy skills in students.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • Experience in delivering engaging, student-centered lessons.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching History and/or Politics alongside Modern Studies.
  • Familiarity with the Scottish curriculum and assessment frameworks.
  • Experience in developing and delivering Advanced Higher Modern Studies courses.
  • Background in creating and implementing innovative teaching strategies.
  • Experience in extra-curricular activities related to the subject area.
