The Opportunity:

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality lessons in Modern Studies, and support teaching in History and/or Politics where appropriate.
- Foster a learning environment that encourages critical thinking, independent inquiry, and evidence-based reasoning.
- Design and implement engaging, thought-provoking, and challenging lesson plans that align with the school’s academic standards.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback and support to help students achieve their full potential.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the History, Modern Studies, and Politics department to enhance teaching and learning across the curriculum.
- Participate in the development of new courses and curriculum initiatives, including options such as Crime and the Law and Comparative Politics.
- Support students in developing confidence and skills in handling evidence, questioning, and independent thinking.
- Engage in professional development and contribute to the school’s commitment to excellence in education.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in Modern Studies, History, or Politics.
- Strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach Modern Studies at all levels.
- Commitment to active learning and fostering critical literacy skills in students.
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
- Experience in delivering engaging, student-centered lessons.
Preferred
- Experience teaching History and/or Politics alongside Modern Studies.
- Familiarity with the Scottish curriculum and assessment frameworks.
- Experience in developing and delivering Advanced Higher Modern Studies courses.
- Background in creating and implementing innovative teaching strategies.
- Experience in extra-curricular activities related to the subject area.
