The Opportunity:

We are seeking an Archivist to support the management and preservation of archival materials within a dynamic and historic educational setting. This role offers hands-on experience in a professional archive environment, ideal for those looking to develop skills in archival management or heritage studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the rehousing, preservation, and cataloguing of archival materials.
  • Support digitisation efforts and ensure the retrieval and handling of materials for internal use and researchers.
  • Collaborate with the School Archivist on appraisal and cataloguing projects.
  • Provide assistance with archival enquiries, events, and public access to collections.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow cataloguing standards.
  • Manage a varied workload and communicate effectively with a range of users.
  • Work independently and as part of a small team to meet the needs of the archive.
  • Ensure compliance with archival best practices and safety standards.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A genuine interest in history and documentary heritage.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant IT tools.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with a range of users.
  • Proactive and flexible approach to work.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in an archive, library, museum, or similar heritage setting.
  • Familiarity with cataloguing standards, digitisation processes, or historical research methods.
  • Experience with graduate or postgraduate study in archive management or a related field.
