The Opportunity:

As Assistant Headteacher - Inclusive Learning and SENDCo, you will lead the strategic development of SEND and Inclusion provision across the school. This role offers the opportunity to shape and drive inclusive education practices and support students with special educational needs and disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic direction of SEND and Inclusion, aligning provision with the school’s vision and values.
  • Ensure full compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and all statutory requirements.
  • Oversee EHCP processes, SEND and EAL registers, provision mapping and exam access arrangements.
  • Line manage and develop the Inclusion team.
  • Work closely with SLT, pastoral teams, admissions and external agencies to ensure coordinated, high-quality provision.
  • Lead quality assurance, using data and evaluation to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide expert guidance and training to staff, embedding inclusive, high-quality teaching across the school.
  • Manage the Inclusion budget and ensure effective deployment of resources.
  • Act as Assistant Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Hold QTS, the National SENDCo Award, and relevant Level 7 specialist qualifications.
  • Have substantial leadership experience within SEND across Primary and Secondary phases.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current legislation.
  • Have proven experience leading EHCP processes and managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Show a strong track record of developing inclusive practice and delivering impactful CPD.
  • Possess exceptional communication, organisational and leadership skills.
  • Be committed to safeguarding, equity, inclusion and diversity.

Preferred

  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language.
  • Experience in delivering specialist teaching (1:1 and small group).
  • Experience in supporting transitions across all phases.
  • Experience in managing complex SEND, EAL needs or medical conditions.
