Director of Studies Years 4 to 12 – lead academic strategy and support student success in a British international school.

The Opportunity:

As the Director of Studies, you will play a key role in shaping the academic direction for Years 4 to 12. You will lead curriculum development, support teaching staff, and ensure high standards of learning and student achievement across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for and report on academic matters as a member of the Senior Leadership Team
  • Develop a clear academic vision and strategy for Years 4–13, ensuring progression and quality of education
  • Work with Heads of Faculty to design coherent learning pathways and curriculum progression
  • Support professional development and capacity building for teaching staff
  • Line-manage and collaborate with Heads of Faculty to ensure academic standards and consistency
  • Develop and implement a robust assessment framework to monitor student progress
  • Promote a culture of high academic expectations and intellectual curiosity
  • Ensure alignment with the English National Curriculum and post-16 pathways

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A certified teaching qualification such as BEd, PGCE, or equivalent
  • An academic degree
  • Proven experience in leading academic teams and raising standards in secondary education
  • Strong curriculum development and lesson planning skills
  • Experience with IGCSE, AS, and A level examinations
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and think strategically

Preferred

  • Experience teaching in international schools, particularly in lower Key Stage 3 or upper Key Stage 2
  • Experience working with students for whom English is not their first language
  • Willingness to complete an NPQH
