Summary:

Head of Careers sought to lead strategic careers programme at a school.

The Opportunity:

The Head of Careers will lead a whole-school programme that prepares pupils for future success, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and ambition to pursue a wide range of opportunities. This is a senior role with a focus on careers education, higher education guidance, and strong external partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic development and delivery of a whole-school careers programme aligned with statutory and industry standards.
  • Deliver 1:1 futures guidance and support pupils with university, apprenticeship, and alternative pathways.
  • Organise and lead key events such as careers conventions and university preparation evenings.
  • Develop and maintain strong links with universities, employers, and external partners.
  • Ensure the school meets its statutory CEIAG responsibilities and adheres to the Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • Work closely with senior leaders and the Sixth Form team to enhance pupil progression and outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the careers programme, ensuring continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Significant experience in careers guidance, higher education admissions, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of post-16 and post-18 pathways and statutory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proactive and highly organised with the ability to manage complex projects.
  • Experience in delivering 1:1 guidance and leading events or programmes.

Preferred

  • Experience with university and employer engagement.
  • Knowledge of the Gatsby Benchmarks and Department for Education guidance.
  • Experience in a school or educational setting.
