Head of Commercial to lead strategic growth and non-fee income generation at a school.

The Opportunity:
As Head of Commercial, you will shape the future of the school by developing a robust strategy to generate non-fee income, leveraging facilities and partnerships. This role is pivotal in supporting the school’s mission and enhancing its impact through innovative commercial initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a long-term commercial strategy aligned with the school’s vision and ethos.
- Identify and assess new commercial opportunities, including lettings, events, and partnerships.
- Manage the use of school facilities for hire during holidays, evenings, and weekends.
- Coordinate with Estates, Catering, Finance, and IT teams to ensure smooth delivery of commercial activities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, event organisers, and local businesses.
- Prepare business cases, income forecasts, and financial models to support proposed ventures.
- Monitor performance against strategic and financial targets, producing reports for senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and legal standards for all commercial activities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience developing and delivering commercial strategies in a facilities, service, or venue-focused environment.
- Experience in business development, events, lettings, or partnership management.
- Strong commercial acumen, including budget management and forecasting.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and risk management.
- Competence in managing bookings systems and commercial processes.
Preferred
- Experience within an independent school or education setting.
- Familiarity with school lettings software or CRM systems.
- Experience producing business cases or commercial proposals.
- Knowledge of charity regulation and income generation under charitable status.
- Understanding of digital marketing and brand management.
- Experience managing third-party suppliers or contractual relationships.
