The Opportunity:

As the Head of English and Maths, you will lead a strategic approach to these subjects, ensuring they are at the core of learner success across the institution. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about education and wants to make a real impact on student outcomes through leadership, innovation, and high standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the development and delivery of English and maths strategy across the school, with a focus on GCSEs
  • Championing high aspirations and driving strong progress and achievement for all learners
  • Managing and inspiring the English and maths curriculum team
  • Ensuring consistently high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment
  • Using data to improve attendance, engagement, and learner outcomes
  • Coordinating with Heads of Faculty to ensure effective delivery across departments
  • Ensuring provision meets and exceeds national performance benchmarks
  • Leading quality assurance, standardisation, and assessment compliance
  • Supporting recruitment, CPD, and performance development within the team
  • Teaching in your specialist subject area as required
  • Contributing to the wider leadership and life of the school

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A degree (or equivalent)
  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent)
  • GCSE English and maths at grade C/4 or above
  • Proven experience in further education as an English or maths teacher
  • Experience in curriculum leadership and team management
  • Demonstrated success in improving learner outcomes, especially in GCSE or resit provision
  • Confidence in using performance data to drive improvement
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships across the organisation
  • Resilience, reflective practice, and the ability to lead change

Preferred

  • Leadership or specialist subject qualifications
  • Experience with national developments in English and maths education
  • Experience in teaching and leading in a further education setting
