The Opportunity:
As the Head of Estates, you will lead the operation and maintenance of a historic and modern school estate across multiple sites. This role ensures that all buildings and facilities are safe, well-maintained, and aligned with the school’s vision of a Complete Education. You will manage a dedicated team and oversee projects that support the daily life of the school community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the school estate across multiple sites.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety, building regulations, and environmental standards.
- Lead and manage a skilled estates team, providing direction and support to ensure high standards of service.
- Coordinate and manage improvement projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure the estate supports the educational and pastoral needs of the school.
- Maintain and improve the condition of historic and modern buildings across the school’s sites.
- Ensure that all facilities are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe and inspiring environment for students and staff.
- Develop and implement strategies for long-term estate management and sustainability.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in leading estates or facilities management within an educational setting.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
- In-depth knowledge of building maintenance, compliance, and safety regulations.
- Experience in managing large-scale projects and budgets.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
Preferred
- Experience in managing estates within a boarding or independent school environment.
- Familiarity with historic building maintenance and conservation practices.
- Knowledge of sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Experience with IT systems used in estate management and maintenance.
