Summary:

Head of History sought to lead and manage a dynamic department at a school.

The Opportunity:

As the Head of History, you will lead and manage a key department, teaching across all key stages. You will set high expectations for pupils, deepening their knowledge and maximising achievement in history. This is a chance to shape an ambitious and exciting curriculum from KS3 to KS5.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the History department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging curriculum across all key stages.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support where needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance cross-curricular links and whole-school initiatives.
  • Support and mentor other members of the department to ensure continuous professional development.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to contribute to the strategic direction of the school.
  • Promote a culture of high achievement and aspiration among students.
  • Ensure that the department meets all statutory and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in leading a department.
  • Strong subject knowledge in History.
  • Experience of teaching across all key stages.
  • Demonstrable leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Commitment to raising student achievement and inclusion.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Experience with data analysis and performance monitoring.
  • Experience of working in a school with a strong community ethos.
  • Experience of leading a department in a non-selective school setting.
