The Opportunity:

As the Head of Hockey, you will lead and develop a thriving hockey programme across all age groups, from Prep to Sixth Form. This role is ideal for an experienced and visionary hockey professional looking to make a lasting impact on player development and coaching standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of a whole-school hockey programme across all age groups and abilities.
  • Develop and implement a long-term vision for hockey at the school, enhancing its reputation as a leading independent hockey programme.
  • Manage and mentor a team of coaching staff, including the Performance Manager and specialist coaches.
  • Oversee fixture organisation, staffing, and umpiring for boys and girls at all levels.
  • Drive player development through tracking progression, identifying talent, and supporting access to national pathways.
  • Plan and deliver pre-season, off-season, and skill development sessions for all abilities.
  • Mentor elite performers and deliver the 'Hurst Masterclass' series.
  • Develop relationships with feeder schools and support outreach coaching initiatives.
  • Promote the school’s hockey programme through social media and maintain a strong reputation in fixtures and competitions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Significant experience in developing and delivering hockey programmes across prep and senior school levels.
  • Proven coaching experience from grassroots through to elite performance.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of coaches and support staff.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, discipline, and confidentiality.

Preferred

  • Level 3 Hockey Coaching Qualification (or equivalent, or willingness to achieve within 12 months).
  • Experience in high-level club or international hockey.
  • Sport-related degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Familiarity with England Hockey and national talent development structures.
  • Experience in elite coaching environments and high-performance sport.
  • A desire and ability to pursue advanced or specialist coaching awards.
