The Opportunity:

As the Head of Maths, you will lead a dynamic department, shaping its vision and driving academic excellence. This role offers the opportunity to influence teaching strategies, support staff development, and ensure high achievement across all key stages. You will be instrumental in driving continuous improvement and inspiring both students and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the department, ensuring alignment with the school’s vision and academic goals.
  • Develop and implement the department’s development plan and self-evaluation process.
  • Oversee budget, resources, and staff performance, including conducting performance management reviews.
  • Promote innovative teaching strategies and support colleagues in achieving high standards.
  • Ensure effective delivery of the maths curriculum across Key Stages 3 to 5.
  • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement and implement targeted interventions.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student achievement and engagement.
  • Support the school’s wider initiatives and contribute to whole-Academy improvement strategies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Degree in Mathematics or a related subject and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Proven experience in leading or supporting the leadership of a department.
  • Strong knowledge of the secondary maths curriculum (Key Stages 3 to 5).
  • Experience in managing and leading successful initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with students and staff.

Preferred

  • Experience in school improvement and Ofsted inspection processes.
  • Leadership experience in a multi-academy trust or similar setting.
  • Experience with data analysis and performance improvement strategies.
  • Knowledge of inclusive education practices and differentiated instruction.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing teaching staff.
