The Opportunity:
As the Head of MFL (French Specialist), you will lead a successful and dynamic team of linguists, driving academic excellence and ensuring continued high achievement in French at KS3 and KS4. This is a key role in supporting the school’s commitment to outstanding teaching and learning in Modern Foreign Languages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the MFL department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes and engagement in French.
- Support and mentor staff, providing professional development and performance management.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the school and Trust to share best practices and resources.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Ensure the curriculum is up to date, relevant, and aligned with the new GCSE specifications.
- Promote the value of language learning and support the school’s vision for academic excellence.
- Work closely with senior leadership to contribute to the strategic development of the school.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Strong track record of teaching Modern Foreign Languages with excellent outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership experience or clear potential to lead a department.
- Commitment to raising standards and driving continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
- Confidence in managing and developing staff through effective performance management.
Preferred
- Experience in leading a department or team.
- Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language (TEFL).
- Experience in curriculum development and assessment design.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
