The Opportunity:

As the Head of MFL (French Specialist), you will lead a successful and dynamic team of linguists, driving academic excellence and ensuring continued high achievement in French at KS3 and KS4. This is a key role in supporting the school’s commitment to outstanding teaching and learning in Modern Foreign Languages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the MFL department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes and engagement in French.
  • Support and mentor staff, providing professional development and performance management.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school and Trust to share best practices and resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the curriculum is up to date, relevant, and aligned with the new GCSE specifications.
  • Promote the value of language learning and support the school’s vision for academic excellence.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to contribute to the strategic development of the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Strong track record of teaching Modern Foreign Languages with excellent outcomes.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience or clear potential to lead a department.
  • Commitment to raising standards and driving continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
  • Confidence in managing and developing staff through effective performance management.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department or team.
  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language (TEFL).
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment design.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
