The Opportunity:
As the Head of Philosophy, Religion and Ethics, you will lead a department committed to inspiring critical thinking and respectful dialogue. This role offers the chance to shape a curriculum that challenges students to explore complex questions about belief, morality, and identity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a vibrant, inclusive and rigorous department of Philosophy, Religion and Ethics.
- Deliver high-quality teaching and learning that engages students in critical thinking and ethical reasoning.
- Foster a culture of respect, inclusivity and intellectual curiosity within the department.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the school to integrate PRE into broader academic and personal development goals.
- Support students in developing their understanding of philosophical, religious and ethical issues through engaging and thought-provoking lessons.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring the delivery of a curriculum that meets the highest standards.
- Represent the department in school-wide meetings and contribute to the development of the school’s strategic vision.
- Mentor and support departmental colleagues, encouraging professional development and collaboration.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A strong academic background in Philosophy, Religion and Ethics, with relevant teaching qualifications.
- Proven experience in leading a department and driving high standards in teaching and learning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, colleagues and parents.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment.
- Demonstrable ability to design and deliver a challenging and engaging curriculum.
Preferred
- Experience in a similar leadership role within a school or educational institution.
- A passion for philosophy, religion and ethics, with a commitment to helping students engage critically with big questions.
- Experience in working with diverse student groups and promoting inclusivity and respect.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
