The Opportunity:

The Head of Prep Department will lead a dynamic academic team, driving excellence in teaching and learning for Years 3–6. This role is ideal for an experienced educational leader committed to fostering academic and personal development in a vibrant, performance-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction for the Prep Department, aligning with whole-school priorities.
  • Lead curriculum planning and review across Years 3–6, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, implementing timely interventions to support academic and personal development.
  • Use assessment data to inform departmental improvement and drive measurable outcomes.
  • Support colleagues through professional development, coaching, and subject expertise.
  • Manage the department budget effectively and ensure resources are allocated optimally.
  • Prepare the department for inspections, maintaining up-to-date documentation and evidence.
  • Oversee pupil induction and ensure smooth transitions between key academic stages.
  • Deliver engaging, differentiated teaching across Years 3–6, including mixed-age and mixed-ability classes.
  • Coordinate distance learning for students involved in professional performance work.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Degree-level education.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in a prep/primary setting.
  • Proven experience in curriculum leadership and monitoring pupil progress.

Preferred

  • Experience within an independent or performing arts school context.
  • Demonstrated success in raising academic standards and improving outcomes.
  • Strong strategic leadership and organisational skills.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of £35,866 to £44,785 plus £2,866 allowance.
