The Opportunity:
As the Head of Religious Studies, you will lead and develop the Theology, Ethics, and Philosophy department, ensuring it delivers the highest standards of education. This role is ideal for an experienced and passionate educator who is committed to raising the profile of the subject and contributing to a vibrant, inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and develop the Theology, Ethics, and Philosophy department to ensure academic excellence.
- Design and deliver a high-quality curriculum aligned with examination specifications.
- Support students across all ability levels, fostering engagement both in and beyond the classroom.
- Deliver at least one other Humanities subject or EPQ, contributing to a broad and balanced education.
- Collaborate closely with the resident Chaplain and other department members to share best practices and ideas.
- Play a key role in co-curricular activities, including boarding, tutoring, sports, and extracurricular programs.
- Promote a collegiate culture that values innovation, inclusivity, and student well-being.
- Ensure the department maintains a strong academic and pastoral focus, with a commitment to student success.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A strong academic background in Theology and Philosophy, with relevant teaching qualifications.
- Proven experience in leading and managing a department, with a track record of raising standards.
- Excellent subject knowledge and the ability to deliver high-quality lessons across multiple subjects.
- Experience with examination specifications and assessment strategies.
- Commitment to co-curricular engagement and student pastoral care.
Preferred
- Experience in teaching additional Humanities subjects or leading EPQ programs.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire and motivate colleagues and students.
- Experience working in an independent or boarding school environment.
- A passion for fostering student engagement and a love for teaching and learning.
