Job Description

Summary:

Head of School role at a specialist school for children with communication difficulties. Lead with vision and impact.

About the School:

A school dedicated to providing specialist primary education in a calm, nurturing environment for children aged 6–11 with communication difficulties typically associated with Autism Spectrum Conditions.

The Opportunity:

As Head of School, you will provide strategic leadership and support the Principal in driving the school’s development. This is a key leadership role with the opportunity to shape a high-impact educational environment and make a lasting difference to students and staff alike.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day operational running of the school.
  • Ensure consistent pupil attendance and academic progress.
  • Maintain the safety, wellbeing, and inclusion of all pupils, staff, and visitors.
  • Collect, analyse, and present data as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all mandatory school standards and legislation.
  • Strengthen collaboration with other Aurora schools to uphold shared values and standards.
  • Build and develop a strong, resilient, and positive staff team.
  • Liaise closely with the Principal and central teams to support school development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).
  • Proven experience in leading teams within the education sector.
  • Strong understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), safeguarding, and relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change and improvement.
  • Sound commercial and financial management skills.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing.

Preferred

  • Experience of leading across multiple sites.
  • Experience in managing complex needs, including autism and learning disabilities.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
