Summary:

Head Teacher opportunity at a specialist school supporting children with SEMH and SEND needs.

About the School:

A school dedicated to supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). It operates with a trauma-informed approach, ensuring every child is at the heart of decision-making.

The Opportunity:

As Head Teacher, you will lead a nurturing and close-knit team, delivering a holistic curriculum that prioritises the needs of pupils. You will inspire and drive real change within the school, while also contributing to teaching with 0.4 of the timetable. This is a chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children with SEMH and SEND.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the delivery of a holistic curriculum that places pupil needs at the centre of learning.
  • Lead and manage a team of staff, providing clear, authentic leadership.
  • Deliver teaching in Maths and/or English to GCSE level, and support vocational courses.
  • Work closely with a range of professionals, including therapists, parents, and local authority teams.
  • Design and implement creative and academically engaging curriculums.
  • Support students with complex needs, including those with adverse childhood experiences.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment that prioritises safeguarding and wellbeing.
  • Engage in all aspects of school life, promoting a positive and inclusive culture.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a proven record of good or outstanding teaching practice.
  • Experience working with children with SEMH and SEND, including managing challenging behaviour and crisis situations.
  • Ability to teach Maths and/or English to GCSE level, with experience in vocational courses such as BTEC or Functional Skills.
  • Experience in designing and delivering creative and academically engaging curriculums.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to work collaboratively with professionals and stakeholders.

Preferred

  • Experience in therapeutic or trauma-informed education settings.
  • Additional qualifications in education leadership or special needs support.
  • Experience in managing and developing staff teams.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding procedures and child protection policies.
