The Opportunity:

Join a school committed to nurturing students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs. As a Pastoral Teacher, you will play a vital role in helping young people overcome challenges, re-engage with learning, and build confidence in a supportive, highly resourced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the needs of students with SEMH requirements.
  • Create and implement Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and contribute to EHCP targets, monitoring and reporting on student progress.
  • Apply effective teaching strategies, behaviour management techniques, and emotional-regulation approaches.
  • Build positive relationships with students, acting as a key adult and providing consistent pastoral support.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes student well-being.
  • Collaborate with pastoral teams, SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies to support student needs.
  • Uphold safeguarding duties and promote student welfare and well-being at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with pupils, parents/carers, and colleagues to ensure a cohesive support network.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience supporting students with SEMH needs, trauma-informed practice, or special education
  • Knowledge of current SEND legislation, assessment, and best practice
  • Strong classroom practice and behaviour-management skills
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child welfare

Preferred

  • Experience in CPD, mentoring, or coaching
  • Experience with multi-agency working or working with external agencies
  • Experience in developing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) or EHCP targets
  • Experience with emotional-regulation strategies or therapeutic approaches
