The Opportunity:

As a Payroll Manager, you will lead and deliver accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll services across the school. This is a pivotal role requiring deep technical knowledge and a proactive approach to managing complex payroll processes. You will ensure all employees are paid on time while maintaining compliance with legislation and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee multiple payrolls, ensuring accurate and timely payment of all employees.
  • Maintain compliance with payroll legislation, HMRC regulations, and pension schemes.
  • Act as the key point of expertise for all payroll-related matters across the organisation.
  • Collaborate with Finance and HR teams to ensure payroll data integrity and accurate reporting.
  • Supervise and support the Payroll Officer in day-to-day payroll operations.
  • Implement and maintain efficient payroll processes and systems.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on payroll-related queries.
  • Ensure all statutory requirements are met and documented thoroughly.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in payroll management within an educational or similar organisation.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and employment law.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy.
  • Experience managing a payroll team or supervising payroll staff.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred

  • Experience with payroll software and systems such as SAGE or similar.
  • Familiarity with pension schemes and employment benefits administration.
  • Experience in a school or charitable trust environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of the education sector and its unique payroll requirements.
