The Opportunity:

A school is seeking a Payroll Officer (Maternity Cover) to join its Finance team. This role offers an opportunity to support payroll operations and contribute to the smooth running of the school’s financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Payroll Manager in running the monthly payroll.
  • Manage and maintain accurate data on the payroll system.
  • Process starters, leavers, and changes to employee records.
  • Calculate regular and variable pay adjustments, pay claims, loans, and deductions.
  • Provide prompt and sensitive support to staff on payroll and pension-related queries.
  • Assist with pensions administration for the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and Support Staff pension scheme.
  • Support the Payroll Manager with year-end routines, including P11ds, Gender Pay reporting, and Pension Audits.
  • Assist with payroll-related projects as required.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a payroll role.
  • In-depth knowledge of current payroll legislation.
  • Strong understanding of data confidentiality and data protection principles.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • High standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A proactive and collaborative working attitude.

Preferred

  • Experience working in an education environment.
  • Familiarity with Iris Payroll Professional software.
  • Understanding of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
