The Opportunity:

As a School Counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting the social, emotional, and mental health of students. You will work closely with the Wellbeing team to provide individual and group counselling, develop policies, and deliver preventative interventions that enhance student wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Wellbeing team to provide professional insight and coordinated support strategies.
• Evaluate student referrals and allocate appropriate support based on individual needs.
• Manage a responsive counselling caseload, prioritising student wellbeing and safeguarding concerns.
• Liaise with internal and external agencies to ensure comprehensive student support.
• Conduct school-wide wellbeing assessments and develop targeted counselling programmes.
• Deliver short-term, solution-focused counselling to individual students and groups.
• Develop and maintain the school’s counselling policy in partnership with the Wellbeing team.
• Provide evidence-informed support to teaching staff on student wellbeing needs.
• Design and deliver parent workshops on child development and mental health.
• Offer parent consultation opportunities and support through drop-in sessions.
• Participate in in-service training for teachers and staff.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

• Degree in counselling or equivalent.
• Practical experience working with young people in a school or children's care context.
• Accreditation with BACP, UKCP, ASCA, or equivalent.
• Evidence of continued professional development.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a multi-professional team.

Preferred

• Qualification in child and adolescent counselling.
• Experience in developing and implementing school counselling policies.
• Experience in delivering parent education and wellbeing workshops.
