The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Science Technician (Physics and Engineering) to support the Science and Engineering Department in delivering high-quality practical learning experiences. This role is ideal for someone passionate about education and eager to contribute to a dynamic, innovative team that supports students in their academic and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Physics and Engineering teaching staff by setting up and maintaining experiments and equipment.
  • Assist students in conducting experiments and providing technical support during practical lessons.
  • Collaborate with the BTEC Applied Science team to support physics-related experiments and coursework.
  • Maintain and upgrade laboratory equipment, including the use of 3D printing and CNC milling technologies.
  • Ensure all resources are safe, functional, and ready for use by students and staff.
  • Participate in staff development and training programs as required.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of practical learning experiences within the department.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance schedules.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in a technical or laboratory setting, preferably in education.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to health and safety standards in a laboratory environment.
  • Willingness to support students and teachers in a fast-paced, educational environment.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Physics or Engineering principles.
  • Experience with 3D printing, CNC milling, or other workshop-based technologies.
  • Previous experience in a school or college setting.
  • Experience with BTEC or similar vocational qualifications.
  • Flexibility to work term-time only and commit to 37 hours per week.
