The Opportunity:

As a Specialist Teacher – Communication and Interaction Needs (KS3 and KS4), you will play a vital role in shaping a new, specialist integration unit that supports students with communication and interaction needs. This is a unique opportunity to deliver adapted learning and create an inclusive, supportive environment that enables students to succeed academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver tailored learning programs that support students with communication and interaction needs.
  • Work collaboratively with families, therapists, and mainstream colleagues to ensure a coherent and holistic support plan.
  • Manage a small cohort of students, providing individualised support and guidance.
  • Develop strategies to support self-regulation and engagement in both specialist and mainstream learning environments.
  • Promote inclusion and ensure students remain integrated within the wider school community.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adapting teaching methods to meet individual needs.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and practices that support students with communication and interaction needs.
  • Participate in staff training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in working with students with communication and interaction needs.
  • Strong understanding of autism and associated learning profiles.
  • Experience in creating and delivering individualised learning plans.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion and student-centred teaching.

Preferred

  • Experience in a specialist integration unit or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of speech and language therapy practices.
  • Experience with assistive technology and communication tools.
  • Experience in working with students in a mainstream school environment.
