The Opportunity:

As a Specialist Teacher – Communication and Interaction Needs (KS3 and 4), you will lead a small cohort of students with communication and interaction needs, delivering adapted learning that supports self-regulation and inclusion. This role offers the chance to shape a specialist integration unit that blends specialist teaching with meaningful inclusion in a progressive, supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver adapted learning plans tailored to individual student needs.
  • Support students in both the specialist unit and mainstream lessons, ensuring successful engagement.
  • Collaborate with families, therapists, and specialist colleagues to provide a coherent support framework.
  • Work flexibly across the integrated base and wider school environment.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting strategies to meet individual goals.
  • Promote social, emotional, and academic development through targeted interventions.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment for all students.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and professional practice within the school and trust.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in communication and interaction needs, including autism and associated learning profiles.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver individualised learning strategies.
  • Strong understanding of inclusion and specialist teaching practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working with students with complex needs and their families.

Preferred

  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language or other specialist communication support.
  • Knowledge of evidence-informed teaching methods and research-based practice.
  • Experience in a multi-academy trust or similar educational setting.
  • Leadership or team management experience within a specialist provision.
