The Opportunity:

We are seeking a qualified Speech and Language Therapist to provide essential support to students with complex needs. This role will involve working closely with the head of therapy to develop and enhance the onsite SALT service. The ideal candidate will play a key role in leading dysphagia support across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver individual and group speech and language therapy sessions tailored to student needs.
• Work collaboratively with teaching and care staff to support communication and swallowing needs.
• Develop and implement individual care plans with a focus on dysphagia management.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on communication strategies and dysphagia best practices.
• Monitor and assess student progress regularly and report findings to the therapy team.
• Stay up to date with current research and best practice in speech and language therapy.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all assessments and interventions.
• Support students in developing independence and life skills through targeted therapy sessions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

• Qualified Speech and Language Therapist with relevant professional registration.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working in a specialist school for young adults with complex needs including PMLD, SLD, and autism.
• Experience at NHS Band 7 level or equivalent.
• Confidence and expertise in supporting dysphagia management and maintaining competencies in this area.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred

• Experience in a school setting with a strong focus on life skills and supported living.
• Knowledge of educational frameworks and pathways for students with complex needs.
• Experience in developing and leading specialist dysphagia support programs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both students and staff.
