The Opportunity:

As a Student Counsellor Volunteer, you will support students in a nurturing and inclusive environment. This role offers the chance to contribute to the well-being of 16-19 year olds and gain valuable experience in a supervised counselling placement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support and guidance to students.
  • Assist in identifying and addressing the emotional and psychological needs of students.
  • Attend and participate in training and supervision sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding policies.
  • Collaborate with the Student Welfare Team to ensure a cohesive support network.
  • Support students in developing coping strategies and life skills.
  • Keep accurate and confidential records of all interactions and sessions.
  • Attend weekly meetings and contribute to the ongoing development of the counselling service.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Previous experience in counselling or working with young people.
  • Attendance at a theoretical and practical training course in counselling.
  • Awareness of the issues and challenges faced by 16-19 year olds.
  • Availability for one day per week between 9:00am and 3:00pm.
  • Own professional indemnity insurance.

Preferred

  • Experience in a sixth form or college setting.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and welfare policies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to supporting student well-being and personal development.
