The Opportunity:

As an Academic Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students with additional needs, helping them reach their full potential. You will work as part of a passionate and forward-thinking team, delivering individualised academic support and managing assessments in line with JCQ guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the needs of students with additional needs and develop appropriate support plans.
  • Conduct assessments for exam access arrangements in accordance with JCQ guidance.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group academic support to SEND learners.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external agencies to ensure students receive consistent and effective support.
  • Review and update support plans regularly to reflect student progress and needs.
  • Share best practice within the Academic and Learning Support Team to improve support delivery.
  • Ensure all students have equal access to the curriculum and opportunities for success.
  • Support the ambitions and aspirations of all students through tailored academic interventions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant qualifications required by JCQ to carry out assessments for exam access arrangements.
  • Proven experience in assessing and supporting students with additional needs, including specific learning difficulties, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and medical needs.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies.
  • Experience in planning and reviewing support strategies for SEND learners.

Preferred

  • Experience in a college or sixth form setting.
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and practices.
  • Experience with specialist teaching techniques for students with additional needs.
  • Familiarity with educational software and digital tools used in academic support.
