The Opportunity:

We are seeking an inspiring Assistant Head of English to lead and support the development of the English department. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on student achievement and contribute to a school in a period of growth and transformation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the development of the English department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Work closely with the Curriculum Leader to implement school-wide strategies and initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the department to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support and mentor teachers within the department to enhance their practice and professional development.
  • Contribute to the development of the school’s mission and values through curriculum leadership.
  • Ensure that the English department aligns with the school’s vision for academic excellence and Catholic education.
  • Collaborate with other departments to promote cross-curricular learning and student engagement.
  • Participate in school-wide meetings, planning, and strategic development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in English and a proven track record of raising achievement.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to lead and manage a department effectively.
  • Experience of working within a Catholic school environment and understanding of Catholic values.
  • Demonstrable ability to meet the Teachers’ Standards and contribute to the school’s mission.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership or senior management role within a school or multi-academy trust.
  • Experience of leading curriculum development and innovation.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Experience of working with diverse student populations and supporting inclusion.
