The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Head of Primary Teaching and Learning, you will provide strategic leadership to enhance teaching quality, curriculum coherence, and student progress within an American curriculum program. This role combines 50% teaching and 50% leadership, making it an ideal opportunity for an experienced educator looking to influence school-wide improvement and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and model high-quality teaching and learning across the Primary phase.
  • Drive curriculum alignment with AERO standards and the school’s scope and sequence.
  • Oversee assessment practices, including MAP, internal benchmarks, and moderation.
  • Monitor student progress and implement targeted instructional interventions.
  • Lead learning walks, observations, coaching, and professional feedback cycles.
  • Design and deliver professional learning aligned with school improvement priorities.
  • Line manage Primary Subject Leads and support Grade Level Leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Head of Early Childhood to ensure continuity and progression.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, accreditation, and compliance with ISP, NEASC, and MoEHE requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with a recognised teaching qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ leadership experience in a Primary or elementary setting.
  • Proven experience leading teaching and learning, curriculum development, and assessment.
  • Experience coaching teachers and leading professional learning.

Preferred

  • Experience in an American or American-international curriculum.
  • Strong understanding of effective Primary pedagogy and curriculum design.
  • Experience using student performance data (e.g., MAP) to drive improvement.
  • High level of ICT competence, including Student Information Systems and assessment platforms.
