The Opportunity:
As a SENCO, you will lead and coordinate the provision for students with SEND across the school, ensuring they receive tailored support and inclusive education. This role is essential in fostering a supportive learning environment that empowers all students to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, develop, and manage the school’s SEND provision in line with whole-school priorities.
- Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations.
- Provide training and practical strategies to support staff in working with students with SEND.
- Design and implement an effective internal SEND referral and graduated response system.
- Coordinate exam access arrangements to ensure fair and effective assessment for eligible students.
- Maintain and update the SEND register and communicate with parents regarding support and progress.
- Support teachers in planning and delivering differentiated lessons and interventions.
- Monitor and review the effectiveness of SEND strategies and interventions using data.
- Recruit, deploy, and manage Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to ensure high-quality support.
- Establish strong links with external agencies, including educational psychologists and therapists.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience in managing and leading SEND provision in an educational setting.
- In-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and JCQ regulations.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
- Experience in developing and implementing individual education plans or equivalent provision maps.
Preferred
- Experience in an international or multicultural school environment.
- Background in assessment and exam access arrangements.
- Experience with English as an Additional Language (EAL) support.
- Knowledge of Quality First Teaching and differentiated instruction.
- Experience in school improvement planning and policy development.
