The Opportunity:

As a Catering Teacher, you will play a vital role in delivering engaging and meaningful catering-based learning to students. You will help develop essential food preparation, nutrition, and hospitality skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver accessible, meaningful, and aspirational catering-based learning for students.
  • Embed universal support strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners with autism.
  • Deliver accredited qualifications, including BTEC programmes and Food Hygiene certifications.
  • Plan and lead the daily lunch menu for the school café, ensuring high-quality meals.
  • Develop learners’ core kitchen skills, such as knife techniques and baking, and support the accurate evidencing of these skills.
  • Attend and contribute to pupil review meetings and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Work with pupils, families, and multi-disciplinary teams to identify pupil-centred goals.
  • Demonstrate skill in communicating with pupils with autism and a range of physical, cognitive, and communication difficulties.
  • Ensure that feedback is given in a pupil-centred manner.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Industry experience in the catering and hospitality sector.
  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, QTS/QTLS).
  • A Level 3 or higher Diploma in professional cookery, catering management, or similar hospitality qualification.
  • Valid food hygiene certificate.
  • Experience of working with pupils displaying challenging behaviour.
  • Commitment to the ethos, vision, and values of the school and the Together Trust.
  • Excellent knowledge of hospitality and catering curricula.
  • Knowledge and understanding of autism spectrum conditions (ASC) at both theoretical and practical levels.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing a team of Education Assistants (EAs).
  • Experience in delivering practical food preparation and safety training.
  • Experience in developing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and EHCPs.
