The Opportunity:

As Deputy Head Academic, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the academic direction of the school. This position offers the opportunity to lead teaching and learning, drive curriculum development, and support the school’s strategic vision. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with a passion for education and a proven ability to inspire and manage a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Head in their absence and contribute to strategic school management
  • Lead the development and review of academic policy and curriculum
  • Manage and support Heads of Department, including staff deployment and appraisal
  • Oversee academic data, assessment, and reporting processes
  • Coordinate with the Examinations Officer, Learning Support, and Careers Advisor
  • Support the development of teaching and learning standards across the school
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for staff
  • Provide guidance to Form Tutors and review student reports
  • Ensure effective communication with parents regarding academic progress and concerns

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A good degree and successful teaching experience
  • Proven leadership experience at middle or senior management level
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to manage and develop academic policy and curriculum
  • Experience in staff selection, deployment, and appraisal
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage complex tasks
  • Commitment to teamwork, emotional intelligence, and a sense of humour

Preferred

  • Experience with academic data management and reporting
  • Familiarity with international curricula and qualifications
  • Experience in co-curricular activities and student development
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse environment
