The Opportunity:
As the DSL, Pastoral and Welfare Lead, you will play a central role in safeguarding and supporting the well-being of students with complex needs. This is a key leadership position that shapes the school’s approach to pastoral care, safeguarding, and student welfare.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring all safeguarding policies and procedures are effectively implemented.
- Manage child protection referrals and liaise with external agencies to support student safety.
- Develop and implement the school’s pastoral care framework to meet the needs of students with ASC and SEMH.
- Build strong relationships with students, families, and staff to promote a positive and supportive school culture.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on safeguarding and pastoral care matters.
- Monitor attendance, behavior, and welfare data to identify and address areas of concern.
- Lead initiatives that foster resilience, independence, and positive relationships among students.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Significant experience in a safeguarding role, preferably in a school or similar setting.
- In-depth knowledge of safeguarding legislation, including KCSIE (Keeping Children Safe in Education).
- Experience working with children with ASC, SEMH, or other complex needs.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle sensitive situations with discretion and empathy.
Preferred
- Relevant qualifications in safeguarding, social work, or pastoral care.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive hourly rate of £15.37 to £16.78, with an annual salary range of £27,463 to £29,982.
