The Opportunity:
As an EAL Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting students with English as an Additional Language. You will develop individual learning programmes, provide in-class support, and lead professional development for staff. Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and assess students needing EAL support upon entry to the school.
- Differentiate instruction and provide resources that reflect the linguistic diversity of students.
- Develop individual and group learning programmes for EAL learners at varying levels of English development.
- Liaise with class teachers to ensure progression and continuity in learning.
- Provide in-service training to staff on strategies to support EAL students in the classroom.
- Monitor and record student progress, setting targets and reporting to class teachers.
- Support students in the classroom and through targeted group interventions.
- Celebrate cultural diversity and build partnerships with parents and the wider community.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience in coordinating and monitoring the achievement of EAL learners.
- Evidence of teaching EAL students and developing individual or group support programmes.
- Knowledge of using language levels to identify and assess EAL learners.
- Experience in raising EAL student achievement and supporting bilingual learners.
- Experience teaching in a multicultural environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, be proactive, and manage time effectively under pressure.
Preferred
- Experience in leading professional development activities for staff and parents.
- Experience in building reading, grammar, spelling, and writing skills into weekly planning.
- Experience in using sensory and interactive methods to teach EAL students.
- Experience in developing subject-related vocabulary with EAL learners.
