The Opportunity:
As a Facilities Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring the school environment is safe, clean, and well-maintained. Your work will directly impact the experience of students, staff, and visitors, creating a positive and productive atmosphere for learning and working.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the security of the buildings by checking the perimeter and keeping access gates locked daily
- Conduct regular fire safety checks and maintain logs for weekly alarm tests, fire extinguisher tests, and emergency lighting tests
- Manage health and safety compliance to maintain a safe working environment
- Respond to emergencies and urgent issues, including acting as a first aider and recording incidents
- Carry out minor repairs, maintenance, and decorating work, and manage contractor services as needed
- Maintain daily cleaning routines, manage waste, and ensure the site is tidy and welcoming
- Oversee the care and maintenance of the school grounds and landscaping
- Conduct safeguarding checks and ensure contractors complete their work to the required standard
- Coordinate the delivery and distribution of goods to the academy
- Ensure heating systems are maintained and boilers are serviced regularly
- Support the academy’s operations, including driving the minibus and assisting with student welfare where appropriate
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience in facilities management or a related field
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations
- Ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance tasks
- First aid certification
- Good organisational and time management skills
Preferred
- Experience working in an educational setting
- Knowledge of fire safety and emergency procedures
- Experience with managing contractors or outsourced services
- Ability to drive a minibus or similar vehicle
- Experience in safeguarding or working with young people
