The Opportunity:

As the Head of Construction Department, you will lead a dynamic team and shape a future-focused curriculum with a strong emphasis on clean energy and emerging technologies. This is a strategic leadership role that directly impacts the development of a skilled workforce in South Yorkshire and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a team of lecturers, curriculum managers, and support staff across a diverse range of construction courses.
  • Develop and deliver industry-relevant curricula from Entry Level to Higher Education.
  • Oversee the strategic and day-to-day management of the Construction department, ensuring quality, curriculum, and financial targets are met.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous professional development, and high performance within the team.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, awarding bodies, and employers.
  • Contribute to cross-college projects and wider strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with inspection frameworks, quality processes, and safeguarding requirements.
  • Support recruitment and retention strategies to grow and sustain the department's success.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification)
  • Regular CPD relevant to the role
  • A sector-specific professional qualification
  • Management and/or leadership experience within the Further Education sector
  • Demonstrable experience of improving quality and outcomes within the Further Education sector
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Experience of coaching or mentoring others
  • A proven track record of managing performance improvement and delivering change
  • Teaching experience in Further Education

Preferred

  • Experience of working with external partners, including employers and industry bodies
  • Experience navigating inspection frameworks and quality processes
  • Experience in curriculum development aligned with national education policy and technical education reforms
