Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student attainment and engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of teaching staff and provide professional development support.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align departmental goals with the school’s strategic priorities.
  • Promote a culture of excellence, inclusion, and high expectations across the curriculum area.
  • Support student behavior and safety within the English department.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance cross-curricular links and enrichment opportunities.
  • Ensure the effective use of resources and facilities to support teaching and learning.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in leading a department.
  • Proven track record in improving student outcomes in English.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery.

Preferred

  • Experience in a multi-academy trust or similar educational setting.
  • Knowledge of current educational trends and initiatives.
  • Experience in staff development and mentoring.
  • Familiarity with the use of digital tools in teaching and learning.
