The Opportunity:

As Head of English Faculty, you will lead a dynamic team and drive excellence in teaching and learning across Key Stages 3–5. This role offers the chance to shape curriculum design, support teacher development, and contribute to whole-school priorities such as digital learning and literacy. It is a TLR1 position with significant influence across the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and long-term direction for the English Faculty, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Lead and manage a team of teachers, supporting their professional growth and wellbeing.
  • Oversee curriculum design, continuity, and progression across English Language and Literature at all key stages.
  • Implement the faculty’s quality assurance cycle, including learning walks, book looks, and moderation.
  • Lead on assessment, data analysis, and intervention strategies to ensure strong student progress.
  • Embed whole-school priorities such as digital learning and high-quality feedback.
  • Manage the teaching of Latin and contribute to whole-school literacy initiatives.
  • Take a proactive role in student recruitment and promotion of English at KS4 and KS5.
  • Oversee the faculty budget and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status and strong subject expertise in English Language and/or Literature.
  • Proven teaching experience across Key Stages 3 and 4; KS5 experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and quality assurance.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • A collaborative, innovative approach aligned with the school’s values.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a faculty or contributing to strategic school initiatives.
  • Experience with digital learning and high-quality feedback practices.
  • Leadership development experience or interest in advancing leadership pathways.
